Prepare, review and retain a client-period case
AgniDesk guide · Preparation workbench · Updated 18 October 2026
Keep each customer's working paper, retained evidence and review history together. Open an existing working paper to start its case.
Confirm annual ITR eligibility facts
- Open the computation and answer each annual ITR eligibility question with Yes or No.
- Leave unconfirmed facts unanswered. The saved form suggestion remains provisional until all facts are answered.
- Save and recompute to see exclusions and outstanding checks beside the suggestion.
- Review presumptive eligibility and special-rate income separately. Non-individual entities require their own tax working.
These answers guide form selection; they do not calculate tax on additional income. They are cleared on next-year rollover.
Review a financial-statement transfer
- Finalise proprietorship statements for the same customer and financial year.
- In the draft computation case, choose those statements, enter signed tax adjustments and their working references, and record the preparation basis.
- Allow replacement explicitly if business income is already keyed, then save the proposal.
- A different manager opens the saved proposal, reviews pre-tax book profit, adjustments and replacement figures, and records the review basis before approving.
- Apply the approved proposal. Changed source statements, computation or case preparation require a fresh proposal.
Only non-speculative business income and its business-activity fact change. Frozen statement evidence and review decisions are retained in the computation's review archive. Balance-sheet schedules, presumptive calculations, other heads and tax credits remain separate workings.
Open a case
- Open Preparation workbench from Returns & filings.
- Choose the working-paper module and an existing customer-linked working paper.
- Select Open case. The same working paper always returns its existing case.
- Use Open working paper to edit figures in their original module. Save preparation notes before leaving the case.
Sources, notes and issues
- Add preparation notes and issues. Record a field or row reference when one is available.
- Resolve every BLOCKER before submitting. Warnings remain visible for review.
- Attach source files up to 2 MB. Identical file bytes with the same attachment purpose are retained once.
- Download retained files or review archives when your role permits export.
Attaching a source retains evidence. It does not import figures into a working paper.
Preview an income import
- In a draft computation case, attach AIS/TIS JSON or Form 26AS text as a preparation source.
- Choose the retained source and the salary, interest or dividend heads you want considered.
- Preview the import. Review its PAN, financial year, totals, proposed changes and unclassified amounts.
- Confirm the preview and apply it. Only the selected empty income heads are filled. Existing keyed figures and tax credits are retained.
A changed computation or case requires a fresh preview. Protected PDFs and encrypted archives need conversion before this import path can read them.
Review a frozen revision
- Draft
- Preparation notes, sources and issues can be changed.
- In review
- The submitted figures, preparation notes and source manifest are frozen in a numbered revision.
- Approved
- Another team member with management and update access reviewed the matching revision.
- Source changed
- The current working paper differs from the submitted revision. Return or reopen preparation, then submit again.
Preparation approval records the firm's review. Statutory schemas, rates and external utility validation retain their own certification requirements.
Record external filing evidence
- Approve the current revision and complete filing in the authorized external utility or portal.
- Attach the external receipt using the External filing receipt purpose.
- Choose that receipt, enter its acknowledgement or reference and the filing date, then record the external filing.
- Update the existing filing board through its normal workflow when required. The case evidence action does not submit a return, mark a board row filed or trigger billing.
A filed case retains its revision and receipt. Correction return preparation remains a separate workflow.
Start next year
- Open the case for the computation used for the filed prior return and select Preview next year.
- Review the opening facts, closing loss balances, expired losses and the exclusions.
- Confirm the opening proposal and create its draft. Verify residency, age and property use for the new year.
Rollover clears annual income, deductions, taxes paid, imports, elections, form overrides and approvals. It never overwrites another computation in the target year. Repeating the same rollover returns the existing target.
Recover an interrupted action
If the connection drops before you receive a save confirmation, reload and check the case history before retrying. Old tabs cannot overwrite a newer case version. Unsaved notes remain in the current tab until you leave; the browser warns on a reload, but there is no saved browser draft after the tab is closed.
Common questions
Can the same person submit and approve?
No. Another team member with review access must approve that revision.
Does the review archive contain a filing-ready return?
No. It contains the frozen preparation figures, source manifest and approval evidence. Use the module's preparation output and the required official utility or authorized portal.
Why did my approval become stale?
The working paper, its relevant linked data or preparation sources changed after the revision was frozen. Submit a new revision for review.
Does attaching an AIS import its figures?
Attaching retains the file. Select that source in the import panel, review its preview and apply the selected empty heads separately.
